Accompanying the patient
The synthesis of your medical history and the choice of treatment is done at two levels, which is one of the strengths of the French system: during individual interviews with the surgeon (if necessary, with the radiotherapist and/or chemotherapist) and during multidisciplinary consultation meetings (MCM). These meetings have been a mandatory tool in France since the first Cancer Plan in 2003.
The MCM is a meeting where all the files of treated patients are discussed. All members of the medical team (twenty-five doctors at the Paris Breast Center) participate in order to study the specific situation of each patient. The MCM allows us to discuss pre- and post-operative treatments, to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each and to validate the treatment plan together.
In the vast majority of cases, the MCM will validate the treatment proposal planned by the surgeon, a proposal that he has already announced to the patient during the consultation. But sometimes there are complex cases. The MCM will then have to consider all the treatment options and propose the most appropriate solution for the particular case presented by the patient.
Once all these elements have been decided, the physician informs the patient: this is the personalized care plan (PCP), determined by the referring physician with the MCM, and then detailed to the patient. The PPS describes the entire treatment and its chronology, giving each patient a global vision of her care path.
The MCM is a huge advantage for patients, as it guarantees each patient a decision by a group of hyperspecialists, ensuring both safety and personalization of treatment. This is what makes this team-based medicine so good.
You can choose to have all of your treatment at the Paris Breast Center or only part of it, for example if you live far away or abroad. We will direct you for your additional examinations and treatments to specialized doctors who are part of our medical team or, if you wish, to the specialists of your choice. We ensure the transmission of all your medical data to all the doctors who will take care of you, as well as to all the doctors you indicate to us, first and foremost your attending physician and your gynecologist.
